Custom Design

The Custom Design process is for the customer seeking that one of a kind look that no one else has in their wardrobe. Bring your fashion ideas to life with my help for any and every occasion. There are four phases in the custom clothing making process with 3-4 appointments for the client.

Phase 1: Consultation (appt.)

At an initial consultation, we will discuss the custom garment of your choosing in depth.

The type of custom piece the client desires can be selected or created. Selected styles can come from different references like pictures, flat sketch, samples, or ready-made garments. If creating a style, with the wearer in mind, we will talk together to get a clear depiction of the garment desired. We will look at different silhouettes, necklines, etc. and  I will sketch some designs down until we come to a completed look. I will also write notes to get a clear understanding of what the client is wanting. Once a final design is chosen, we will discuss fabric selection, trims, finishings, and price point. We will address any concerns or questions you may have about the custom garment also. At the end of the consultation I will take measurements of the client and downpayment for fabric sourcing.

Phase 2: Fabric Sourcing/Construction

After the consultation, I will go to the fabric stores to source the fabric and trims for the custom garment. The client can also purchase fabric and trims directly from online sources like Etsy, Amazon, etc. if they chose so. I then will begin to pattern make and drape the garment of choice. After finishing the pattern/drape, I will then construct the garment out of the fabric sourced by sewing it. The first fitting will then be scheduled to test the garment for fit.

Phase 3: First Fitting (appt.)

At the first fitting I will pin and mold the garment to your body & shape. Alterations will be done to the garment for changes to the fit of the client. I will then begin to finish the garment more completely out, adding more details with the fabrics and trims sourced. A second fitting will then take place to test the fit once again for the garment.

Phase 4: SecondFitting (appt.)

At the second fitting we will evaluate the fit and overall appearance of the garment. The client can decide if they would like any areas of the garment adjusted more or not. If the garment fit is good and the client is happy, you will be able to take the garment at the end of the appointment. If more alterations are needed I will pin and make them and the client will have one more final fitting.

Phase 5: Final Pick Up (appt.)

At the final pick up, the client will try on the garment one last time to make sure they are satisfied with everything. The garment will be checked for quality control & inspection, insuring all seams are intact and details of the garment are correctly established. The custom design will also be steamed,  pressed, and packaged up for the client and they will be able to take their custom design at the end of this appointment.
